Support "Paul's Posse" and say a big f@#$ off to Amyloidosis

May 19, 2010 1 Comment

Ok, so the title of this post is a little harsh.  But it’s meant to be.  Amyloidosis?  It can kiss my ass.  It takes the lives of many, but in this case, I’m talking about someone I never met. Amy is one of my co-workers here at Wiley.  A nicer, harder working person would be …

And away we go!!!

May 18, 2010 1 Comment

Not so long ago, I spoke up in a rather large and public meeting and said something that could have been career limiting, if not ending.  We were talking about future publishing directions for our company, and I talked about how I was a fan and avid user of Trip Advisor. You will note that …

What would Ira do?

April 19, 2010 5 Comments

I recently jumped on the lemming bandwagon and purchased an iPad.  Sure, I’ve got about 100 reason why I wanted one, and some of them are even work related, so I’m not really a lemming, right? Even though I am familiar through and through with the iPod Touch operating system (and really, the thing is at …

The Blog Killer

March 30, 2010 3 Comments

Admit it, when Twitter first came on the scene, you could see how it could impact blogging.  Rather than writing a thoughtful, coherent piece about some event or idea, you could tweet it, but only in 140 characters or less.  A lot of the blogs I followed suffered for content when their masters got involved …

The On Switch has been thrown

March 29, 2010 2 Comments

For those fans of IT Boy, an update.  I really haven’t talked about him much lately (well, I haven’t talked about much of ANYTHING lately) but that isn’t because things are going badly.  On the contrary, things are going great.  His language has exploded over the past few months.  There are some times when he …

Skateaway

March 27, 2010 No Comments

I’ve spent much of the winter debating activities for the IT Boy.  No, he’s not underscheduled.  He lives a pretty full life of services with the occasional playdate sprinkled in.  No, my thinking was more in the way of a sport or music class.  I tried doing a music class with him a year ago, …

"Saving Henry: A Mother's Journey"

March 26, 2010 2 Comments

This weekend, I had the privilege of joining a group of local moms to celebrate the publication of a new book.  Laurie Strongin’s ”Saving Henry: A Mother’s Journey” published at the beginning of March, and to mark this most momentous milestone, she has been on the road talking to groups of people and the media about Henry’s …

SXSW Redux

March 25, 2010 1 Comment

If you want an idea of how things have changed around these parts, keep reading.  Two years ago, I was griping all over the Interwebs about SXSW, the annual “spring break for geeks” in Austin Tx.  How the sessions were lame, how there wasn’t enough meat to the conference, how I just didn’t get that the real …

102 and counting…

March 24, 2010 1 Comment

We reached a big family milestone earlier in the month when my grandmother turned 102.  She’s still in her nursing home (the nursing home I am the mayor of on Foursquare!) and is doing pretty well, considering her age.  We celebrated with some cake, some fish watching, and hugs all around.  Happy birthday G.G.!

Foursquare For Dummies

March 24, 2010 1 Comment

Well, not yet…but I did write an article for the Dummies.com site about Foursquare.  When I shared the article on Facebook, several friends wrote me to advise me of an error in the article.  I’m so happy to have friends who care.  I have to say that I am becoming more enamoured of the site.  …

What's It All About, Mia Hamm?

February 28, 2010 1 Comment

If you’ve ever been a volunteer, you’ve probably had a moment where you wonder why you are doing what you do.  Maybe it’s politics, maybe it’s frustation at trying to get things done, maybe it’s a difficult fellow volunteer you’re working with (ahem)- it’s easy to lose sight of what made you raise your hand and say …

Book "Fare" on Foursquare

February 22, 2010 3 Comments

Last week I wrote about my flirtations with Foursquare.  I’m sad to report that it has turned into a full on affair.  I’m almost to the point of planning new places to go, with the goal of checking into new places on the site.  But I’ve also been reading about businesses trying to take advantage …

It's Hip to Foursquare

February 17, 2010 7 Comments

My experiments in social networking have taken a dangerous turn into the world of Foursquare.  I blame my friend Roman -we were having lunch recently and he announced right before we ordered that he needed to “check in”.  I had seen Foursquare posts come up in my Twitter and Facebook streams before, so I knew …

Since U Been Gone…

February 2, 2010 2 Comments

Gee, January wasn’t such a great month for blogging.  I’m grateful to have had many visitors during the month, but I hang my head in shame for not giving them more to ponder.  Most friends who follow me on Twitter and on Facebook know that there’s nothing that should  keep me from writing, other than …

"Up All Night"

January 12, 2010 5 Comments

In past blog entries, I told of our efforts to get the IT Boy to sleep through the night.  I’m happy to say that after much work he is probably one of the best sleepers in the house. Mr. IT would tell you that it was all a natural evolution, that he just reached a …
