I’m very excited to say that it is going to be a a big theater month for the IT Girl. June is traditionally a very busy month with school winding down, lots of work commitment and getting the kid ready for sleep away camp. But heck, who can pass up the chance to see a show? June alone will see me at 3 shows. The first of them will be this week. I’m going to see Rapture, Blister, Burn. It’s a new play at Playrights Horizon starring Amy Brenneman. She’s one of my favorite actresses – I loved “Judging Amy” and enjoy watching her play the offbeat shrink Violet in “Private Practice.” I confess that I wanted to see this just because of her, not knowing a thing about the plot.
Of course, after I read the description of the play, I had a really good feeling I made a great choice - After grad school, Catherine and Gwen chose polar opposite paths. Catherine built a career as a rockstar academic, while Gwen built a home with her husband and children. Decades later, unfulfilled in polar opposite ways, each woman covets the other’s life, commencing a dangerous game of musical chairs — the prize being Gwen’s husband. With searing insight and trademark wit, this comedy is an unflinching look at gender politics in the wake of 20th century feminist ideals.
Insight, wit and feminist ideals? Works for me.
I’ll post a review of the show after I have seen it, but you can join in the fun tonight at 9pm Eastern Time on Twitter. MamaDramaNY and Playtime will be discussing motherhood, career and the choices we make while celebrating RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN. Please follow @MamaDramaNY or @Playtime_NYC and hashtag #RaptureBlisterBurn. You can learn more abou the show and have a chance to win tickets, PLAYTIME vouchers and published copies of the script.
