My job title, as many of you know, is Director of Marketing at Wiley. What does that really mean? Well, many days it means talking to someone in sales about a new release that’s doing well, talking with editors about upcoming projects or just filling out a lot of forms.
But every once in a while, you get to be a part of something special. Last year at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, I was blessed to meet Kelby Carr. She was sitting at the table next to me during the sessions and we quickly became fast friends. Kelby runs Type A Parent and the Type A Conference – in fact, when I asked attendees what conferences they considered to be must-attends, Type A was named by everyone to a person.
Eventually, Kelby came to meet one of our For Dummies editors, Amy. Amy was looking for new authors, and she liked what she saw in Kelby.
Long story short, one year after we first met, I got to present Kelby with her first published book at the place where it all started, Walt Disney World. Stuart at the front desk of the Yacht Club was kind enough to make a “I’m Celebrating” button for her to help mark the occasion.
I’m so thrilled to have been able to be a part of this moment. I may not be a brain surgeon saving lives or a rocket scientist discovering new worlds, but every once in a while I get to see that I played a part in impacting someone’s life in a positive way, and these are the things that should be celebrated.
Congrats to Kelby on the publication of Pinterest For Dummies! Take a look, but don’t expect her to squeeee….
Disclosure: Wiley is a sponsor of Type A Conference. As an attendee of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, I received for a conference fee hotel accommodations, park tickets, many meals and access to special events not made available to the public. Disney did not ask me or anyone to blog about this event, but being a fan of the company I can’t help myself.

Ellen, thank you SO MUCH! Wow, it is hard to believe this all happened in a year’s time. You are amazing, and I am so glad we met and became friends (and not just because of the book… LOL).
Love you too babe! Cant wait to see you at TypeA! Too bad there are no roller coasters.
I’m thrilled for Kelby. She’s brilliant and one of the hardest working women in social media. I know her book will crush it.
Completely. Blessed to call her a friend and colleague now!
