“Operation DW” Saves the Day!

Tomorrow, IT Boy is having (minor) surgery to have tubes inserted into his ears.  He’s always been prone to ear infections, and until this year, we resisted taking an aggressive approach to solving the problem, instead relying on nasal spray and antibiotics to dry him up.  Unfortunately, that wasn’t working any more, and with him having a history of developmental delays, we decided to have the surgery done.

It’s hard to get across to a kid exactly what is going to happen to you when you have a complicated medical procedure done.  Luckily for me, I found a DVD at the library that did the trick.  It was called “Operation DW” and it contained 4 episodes of the TV show “Arthur”.  The title episode was all about DW, Arthur’s little sister, getting tubes in her ears, just like our boy.  It went through why she needed them, going to the doctor to prepare for the procedure, and what it was like to get anesthesia.  At the end, she woke up and everything was just fine.  Exactly like we hope it’s going to be for the boy.

If you want to check out the episode, which I highly recommend if you have a kid going for ear tubes, you can find it on Amazon in their streaming video section if your library doesn’t have it.
