A great Halloween read!
Parents, if you’re like me, you’ve probably read the children’s classic “Goodnight Moon” more times than you can count. You can probably get through it, in that soothing sing-song fashion, without even looking at the pages. Heck, your kids can probably do the same. We retired that book a while ago, after about a billion readings, but I was thrilled to find a spooky takeoff of “Goodnight Moon” entitled Goodnight Goon: A Petrifying Parody by Michael Rex.
It will be very familar to readers of the Margaret Wise Brown classic, but yet it brings a new twist with the creatures and monsters enhabiting a “tomb” instead of the “great green room.” There are moments that allow for audience participation (yelling “boo” or mimicing the mummies rubbing their tummies”) just like in the original.
I couldn’t wait to read it to the Boy. He’s never been one to beg for a bedtime story at night, so if I can get a book read, it’s a big deal. He seemed just ready for this book. We read it Friday night and have read it at least 3 times each night since. Last night, Daddy even got in the fun and read it. He too was impressed with how it took on the original and gave it a fun new twist.
If you are looking for a fun read for your preschooler or K-2 reader, consider Goodnight Goon: A Petrifying Parody
for the Halloween season!
