The best part of my job is when I see new books hit my desk. OK, they don’t really hit my desk until they hit my boss’s desk and I can steal them from him. But still, it’s a good feeling. It means we have new product heading out to the marketplace. It means that someone can now call him or herself an author. It means I have more work to do!
Two books recently came out that I think would be of great interest to my blogger friends:
First is Plate to Pixel: Digital Food Photography and Styling. I’m in awe of food bloggers. They are true masters of many arts. Not only can they detail a meal with words, they can illustrate it with pictures, to the point where you want to jump out of your seat and into the computer screen to eat the bounty in front of you. Food photography is an art, and you have to do more than just put your camera on the “flower” macro setting to do it right. This book shows how to take mouth-watering photographs that will have everyone in awe of YOU.
Next is Mamarazzi: Ever Mom’s Guide to Photographing Kids. It’s a great guide to taking remarkable photos of your wee ones. Sure, your kids are perfect. So are mine. But when I come near them with a camera it’s like a thousand lemons have been eaten. Or somehow Boy gets distracted by his new-found love of danelions and he simply must run away to pick them. It’s not all about recreating the cheesy-posed portraits of your childhood. It’s about capturing what makes your children unique. What I love most about this book is the amazing photos inside – totally great inspiration for my own photo sessions with the spawn.

Oh I love photography books. I’m sure I don’t know half the things my Canon can do. I could use some tips from these great books !

two great opportunities. My husband likes to take pictures of plated dinners that I create – now maybe we’d learn what to do with those pictures – or how to take them so they are equally beautiful. Spring also seems to be in the air with the number of wee ones that are showing up in my sphere of influence.
